Curriculum

Practical training:

5 weeks for the fourth year students

 5 weeks for the fifth year students.

·         Field training:
           
Field training for the fourth and fifth  year medicine for a continuous two weeks during the elective  modules.

Training in field health survey in the department is considered one of the most important practical activities, where the students are trained to investigate the problems of the community and environmental health as well as methods to study these problems, afterwards they propose appropriate preventive solutions. This training is considered one of the most important means of training future doctors on the scientific basis of field surveys.

 

       Postgraduate

The department supervises nearly sixty doctors in the specialization of family medicine and nearly thirty doctors in community medicine. These doctors are preparing the Arab fellowship and the Saudi fellowship of Family and Community Medicine within the activities of the Joint Program for Advanced Studies of Family and Community Medicine in Jeddah. It should be noted that this center holds the largest number of doctors enrolled in fellowship program in family and community specialty in the Kingdom, also a number of doctors from the Gulf region joined the program.

The department is headed at the level of region by the Academic Council for each of the specializations: family medicine and community medicine. The Council is composed of members of the contributing and collaborating parties that include apart from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of King Abdul-Aziz both the health services of the National Guard and the Ministry of Defense and Aviation and the Ministry of Health, the Council supervises all postgraduate activities of these specialties.

The department has prepared curricula for the postgraduate Diploma in the community Medicine and fellowship, under the auspices of the Saudi Society of Family and Community Medicine. As of the last academic year, the Master's program in the community medicine has been adopted in the school of medicine of King Abdul-Aziz University.

The Department provides sessions and advisory researches for the faculty members and physicians making researches. Some members of the department also give field health education in schools, colleges and in the Saudi Red Crescent and other governmental and private institutions.
